‘Olivia’ is part of the Ukiyo-e flower series.
Ukiyo-e is a Japanese word that means ‘pictures of the floating world.’ The floating world refers to the pleasure quarters of Japan in the 17th - 19th centuries, where one might experience beautiful women, actors, sumo wrestlers, travel the landscape, and see flora and fauna. It was said that to enjoy the floating world one must be ‘going with the flow.’ To me that means having a relaxed attitude to be able to appreciate the simple pleasures in life. To notice the beauty of the every day things that go on around us in the world.
