Anticipation
I often think about how colour and texture add feeling to a painting. But it is easily overlooked how this can effect the story that the painting is trying to tell, given that the subject matter is somewhat representational.
For example, if i had given this painting a deep red back ground it would obviously change the feeling, subject to the viewers interpretation of the colour red, and therefore change the story, or at least the interpretaion of the story depending on the viewers feelings.
So in a sense what might seem obvious, i would say, a painting has two creators, the artist and the mind of the audience.
